OUR MISSION

To provide materials and financial assistance to the village of Kinniya, Sri Lanka following the destructive forces of the December 26, 2004 tsunami.

With the help of volunteers, the generous public and corporate sponsors, Village Assist Ridge Meadows is aiming to raise $500,000 by 2010 to help build 100 new homes for Kinniya, among other forms of relief. Housing is the most urgent need. The monsoon season stretches from December to March in this region of Sri Lanka, and many residents are currently finding shelter under plastic tents.

ABOUT VILLAGE ASSIST

Village Assist Ridge Meadows was founded by Mrs. Daughty Preena in January 2005. She has family in Sri Lanka and has seen the devastation first hand. With the help and advice of Adopt-A-Village Vancouver, Mrs. Preena established a grassroots campaign in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge to assist the village of Kinniya. The focus has been financing, rebuilding and developing self-help projects. Daughty visited Kinniya in March, and with funds from Village Assist she was able to provide immediate assistance to 70 families. Village Assist is committed to not only providing critical supplies and equipment to families, but to also purchase the materials in the affected areas to support economic regeneration as well.

Village Assist Ridge Meadows was registered as a B.C. society on June 28, 2005. We are now also established as a charitable non-profit society, our registration number is at the bottom of the webpage.
